BiographyWilliam Douglas Stubee, age 79, of Easton, MD, died at home on Monday, July 26, 2010. He was born to Albert Lars and Gladys Harrison Stubee on April 26, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN. A graduate of Vineland High School in New Jersey, he attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy and received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1954.
He served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958, and then returned to the University of Pennsylvania, receiving a Masters in City Planning in 1962. He was involved in planning the John F. Kennedy gravesite, Disney World and Lake Buena Vista as well as many urban projects in New York City. He was proudest of his work developing the master plan for the United States Naval Academy. An avid sailor in years past, he volunteered at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Model Guild and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Bivins, Ethel Mann and Gladys Dorsch. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Dechaine and brother, Albert Stubee. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret of Easton and children, Douglan and wife Maggie of Centreville; Susan Prosser and husband George of Annapolis; Eric and wife Joyce of Granite Bay, CA; and Lars of Centreville. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Grace and Hannah Stubee, Andrew and Colin Prosser, Melissa Jorna, Jed, Margot, Todd and Alex Evans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Thursday, July 29 at Saints Peter and Paul Church, Easton, MD. Inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Wednesday, November 24, at 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, PO Box 636, St. Michaels, MD 21663, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Easton, 8648 Commerce Dr., Easton, MD 21601.
