BiographyMarie I. Davenport, age 95, of Cambridge, MD, died Sunday afternoon, July 25, 2010 at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge, MD.
Born on July 12, 1915, in Lakesville, Dorchester County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Roland Benjamin Insley, Sr. and Cassie Sandra Fitzhugh Insley. On October 21, 1933 she married D’Arcy Davenport. He died on September 14, 1972. Mrs. Davenport had worked for the Dorchester County Board of Education as a school cafeteria manager. She had also worked as a seamstress for Richardson’s Style Shop. Mrs. Davenport took great pride in helping to baby-sit her grandsons, granddaughters and great-grandchildren in their early years. She enjoyed taking care of her home where she lived for 70 years, flower gardening, cooking, reading and sewing. Mrs. Davenport was caring, gracious and kind to all who knew her. Surviving is her son Darcy “Bud” Davenport and his wife Ann of Tappahannock, VA; a daughter Joyce D. Bromwell and her husband Wayne, Sr. of Cambridge, MD; a sister Dorothy “Dot” Palamaras; a brother William Insley, two granddaughters Linda Ostrander and her husband David of Fairfax, VA, Vicky Hunt and her husband Andrew of McClain, VA; two grandsons Wayne O. Bromwell, Jr. and his wife Colleen of Cambridge, MD, Gary A. Bromwell of Salisbury, MD; six great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved; several nieces, nephews; and numerous neighborhood friends. Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were seven siblings. A graveside service will be led by her family members at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28th at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Marie's memory to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613. Graveside Service
